The current-generation model comes with three engines in the offer and we expect to see all of these units in the 2022 Subaru Outback. The base engine is a familiar 2.0-liter unit, which is good for about 150 horses. For the new model, we could see a mild power boost.
On the other side, an optional 2.5-liter inline-four unit already received an update and now features 182 horsepower, instead of 170. There is a large 3.6-liter inline-six unit, which in the current version delivers around 256 horsepower. This engine could also get a mild update. All units use the same CVT gearbox.

According to rumors, the 2022 Subaru Outback could also come in hi-performance version. It looks like this model will get a turbocharged version of the inline-six engine. A total amount of power would go over 300 horses. Of course, this version would require a manual transmission. More power, this version would probably come with some chassis tweaks, with things like sporty suspension, brakes etc. Expect to see few changes in terms of styling. At the moment, it seems early to talk about a more precise launch date. We are pretty sure that the new generation will come in about two years. Before that, we will probably see the new model present on some major auto show. In terms of price, we don’t expect bigger changes. The current model goes in a range between 26.000 and 39.000 dollars. The new 2022 Subaru Outback should stick to this range, though eventual performance model will probably cost several thousand dollars more.
When it comes to competition, we must say that this model stands somewhere between crossovers and wagon and that there are many similar models in this class. One of the potential rivals could be the Audi Allroad. Even the current-generation Outback is superior when it comes to off-road capabilities.
