New 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Redesign and Price. We recently witnessed several reintroductions and redesigns of the iconic, hard-core, off-road-ready nameplates including the Ford Bronco but as the recent report suggests one of America’s longest-running nameplates might be discontinued after the 2022 model year. The current Toyota Land Cruiser J200 has been in its sixth generation since 2008 and goes on sale with just a few changes for the 2022 season.
The premium, off-roader gets two new color options for its range-topping version and the Heritage Edition will be available with the third row of seats. While the US market may not see the 2023 version, outside this market the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser should arrive as the all-new model known as the 300 series.
The well-equipped and off-road-specialized Land Cruiser is prized from above $85, 000 in the US where it is a low-volume seller with a number of sold examples of around 3, 500 in the last four model years. The aging design and high price are among factors that contribute to slow sales in the US but the model’s standings are better in the Middle East and Australia where it should arrive fully redesigned for the 2023 model year.
The redesigned Land Cruiser 300 should come on the brand’s new platform version with a four-wheel-drive system only. Like its luxury twin Lexus LX, the new Land Cruiser should abandon the current V-8 engine and switch to a smaller, turbocharged displacement. There should also be a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder option and eventually the hybrid version. The model should reportedly reduce the level of premium and luxury features in favor of off-road capability.
2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Powertrain
The redesigned, global 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser will focus on its off-road capability and benefit from the use of the new TNGA platform. Like the next Lexus LX, the upcoming Land Cruiser should also get new powertrain solutions including diesel and petrol units and eventually the hybrid version.
The new-gen Land Cruiser should use a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine paired likely with the six-speed automatic transmission. The Lexus-sourced 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 petrol unit should replace the current V-8 engine. The new, turbo petrol engine should also be a part of the hybrid setup. The petrol-powered Land Cruiser will likely use an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The current Land Cruiser relies on the 4.5-liter turbodiesel V-8 engine good for 200 kW and 650 Nm of torque. The 200 Series model uses also a 227-kW 4.6-liter V-8 petrol unit. The US-spec model gets the power from the 381-hp 5.7-liter V-8 engine.
2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Design
The redesigned 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 should use a ladder-frame variant of the brand’s widespread TNGA platform. The platform’s modern and lightweight design should provide multiple benefits for the new-generation Land Cruiser including implementation of the modern tech systems and a hybrid powertrain.
The prototype version hasn’t yet been spotted when it comes to the model’s appearance. Reports indicate that the new-generation Land Cruiser should come with evolutionary styling changes. The model should adopt bolder front-end styling with the new grille and headlights. Reports also indicate that the new version should measure 4950 mm in length 1870 mm in height and 1980 in width.
Interior, Equipment
Details available about the 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser’s in-cab design suggest that the redesigned off-roader should reduce the level of premium features in its new generation compared to the actual model. The current Land Cruiser gets leather upholstery, four-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, heated and ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, heated steering wheel in its base version.
The actual entry-level Land Cruiser includes also numerous tech features including a 9-inch touchscreen, navigation, wireless charging, 14-speaker JBL sound system, etc. Safety is also of the highest priority and every model relies on automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with a rear cross-traffic alert, surround-view cameras, and parking sensors. And you also should read about the 2023 Toyota Highlander, so you can compare the feature of both these cars.
The redesigned model should come with a downgraded level of used premium features. The model should use the brand’s new infotainment system from the entry-level version but skip some of the safety systems. The model should also start with less expensive materials.
2023 Toyota Land Cruiser Release, Price
The 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser should debut in mid-2022 and go on sale later in the year. If reports about the downgraded in-cab premium level turn out to be true, the model should cost significantly less than the current model.
We will see if Toyota will retire the Land Cruiser on the American market after the 2022 model year as the report claims.
